Awareness programme for farmers and stakeholder
ITANAGAR, Aug 14: Training for the creation of awareness among farmers and other stakeholders regarding provisions of the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Act (PPV & FRA), 2001 was organized at Orchid Research Centre, Tippi by the State Forest Research Institute, Itanagar on 10th of August. Training was sponsored by the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Authority, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India.
Speakers during the day included EAC Bhalukpong, SFRI Director, DFO Silviculture, DFO Khellong Forest Division, Bhalukpong who all spoke on various aspects of PPV & FRA, 2001. Dr. L R Bhuyan, Systematic Botanist, SFRI and Dr. Ona Apang Principal Investigator made power point presentation on topic general flora of Arunachal and procedures for conducting descriptions of characters of orchid as per the guidelines of the authority. Students take out rally
ITANAGAR, Aug 14: A mass peace rally was organized by the students of GHSS Itanagar along with Students’ Union Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (SUMA) from H S school premises to restricted area of CM’s bunglow today to ventilate their grievances and submit a memorandum. Thousands of student from twin capital city reportedly took part in the rally.
Addressing the students at dharna site SUMA president Biri Tabing exhorted all those participants to maintain social spirit for cause of coming young generation. Later Tabing along with School representatives submitted the memorandum to the Education Commissioner C B Kumar for necessary action. The Education Commissioner was said to have assured his full cooperation for solution to grievances.
While pointing out the construction of road ‘through the middle of school compound creating much disturbance for the school authority,’ the memorandum addressed to the CM demanded immediate halt of payment to the contractor and take appropriate action against the erring executing department at earliest. It further demanded proper maintenance of school boundary, improvement of school infrastructure and refund of excess amount charged from the students as school fees and additional bus service for transportation of students.

ITANAGAR, Aug 14: On the eve of the Independence Day, the councillor of ward no.5 and also the member of empowerment standing committee (IMC) Taba Yall Nabam today visited RK Mission hospital, Itanagar. She interacted with patients and administrative staffs.

ACGF condemns physical assault on govt officer
ITANAGAR, Aug 14: The members of Apatani Career Guidance Forum (ACGF) have vehemently condemned the dastardly act of physical assault on Er. Narang Gumbo, Executive Engineer, Sangram division by some miscreants without any provocation at Naharlagun recently. Such unruly behavior and act on any public servant will demoralize the effective functioning of their duty and hamper the overall development of society directly or indirectly, ACGF added in a release. Any public servant must be allowed to function with fair and just manner. The forum appeals all public concerned to restrain from such activities, and particularly to administration to curb such menaces and identify the culprit and impose exemplarily punishment without any prejudice.

ITANAGAR, Aug 14: On the eve of Independence Day, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today gifted the people of the state a Cancer Center and the National Urban Health Mission, marking another milestone in the health sector of Arunachal Pradesh.
In a simple but impressive function at the premises of the Naharlagun State Hospital here, Tuki laid the foundation stone for the Tertiary Cancer Center (TCC) and also launched the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) in presence of Health and Family Welfare Minister Atum Welly, Secretary Indira Malo Jain, Director Dr Kartik Nishing and Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Moji Jini besides host of officers, doctors and officials of the State Hospital.
Describing the TCC a milestone in state’s heath delivery system, Tuki however called for massive awareness campaign against all life threatening diseases including cancer and conduct of free health camps to know the health status of the masses. He advocated introduction of health card for each family in tune with his proposed CM’s Universal Health Insurance Scheme (CMUHIS) which would provide cashless treatment in notified government and private hospitals initially to BPL category families. Once the state and district hospitals are upgraded, expert surgeons could be brought from reputed hospitals from outside to treat patients within the state as per the agreement under preparation to be inked with a reputed insurance company with proven record, he added.

ANSU seeks Govt status on its demands
ITANAGAR, Aug 14: Appalled by the inaction of the state government in the Bomjen Gapak murder incident, the All Nyishi Students’ Union has urged upon the state government to come out with the report regarding the demands placed by it.
In a release, it said, two months have passed since the agitation was deferred on the assurance given by the chief minister himself. The government needs to clarify on the status as per the demand. We expect a man of his stature, the guardian of the state, to honour his commitment, it said.
It appears as though all the demands are still to see the light even after passing of two months and to this the chief minister owes an explanation to the entire public of Arunachal Pradesh, it held.
The union is deeply hurt by this casual take by the government and being taken for a ride for two months and for the lackadaisical attitude shown. The union will deliberate on the further course of action very seriously after the update given by the government in this regard and intensify its agitation after the union is satisfied that the entire stretch of two months was not just an eyewash, it declared.

ITANAGAR, Aug 14: In a rare show of maturity and unity, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) and Naharlagun NRL petrol pump owner and senior advocate Tony Pertin came to term and resolved the ‘misunderstanding’ that cropped up after the unfortunate petrol pump vandalism incident at Naharlagun on June 17 last. However, Adi Baane Kebang and Adi Students Union (AdiSU) played a perfect mediator in resolving the issue.
On June 17 last, a group of persons reportedly ransacked the NRL petrol pump at Naharlagun owned by Tony Pertin.
Addressing a joint press conference here at Arunachal Press Club today, ABK president Kangir Jamoh showered praises on AAPSU president Kamta Lapung for showing maturity in resolving the issue. Lauding all the members of AAPSU and AdiSU who played important role in bringing a solution to the misunderstanding, Jamoh hoped that such maturity will be displayed by the young leaders in future too for greater interest of the state.
“The case has been settled with the intervention of ABK and also AdiSU” declared Kamta Lapung. “Life is nothing but full of compromise, let us compromise in greater interest,” Lapung said adding that the 17th June incident took place due to communication gap and misunderstanding. He appealed to the ABK and AdiSU to continue their good works for the cause of people of the state. Lapung further appealed to its advisers to continue their guidance to the Apex student body.

Protest rally held against atrocity to women

ITANAGAR, Aug 14: A peaceful procession was conducted by Nari Kalyan Kendre and All Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society at Daporijo Township today. Women from every walk of life came out in the street to register their protest and make people aware against the domestic violence and atrocity towards the women. Recently a minor girl was allegedly raped at Daporijo.
Procession started from Rijo Ground covering most of the colony within the township. Finally the procession culminated at Rijo conference hall, where protester gathered. Later a meeting was conveyed in presence of Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of police along with other dignitaries.

When I was passing out from Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), I asked a Deori friend
of mine coming from Assam to study in RGU how did he feel staying two years in Arunachal
Pradesh? Happily he replied, “I really enjoyed being here. I like Arunachalee contrary
to what was told to me by my relatives when I told them I took admission in Rajiv
Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh. People here are simple and straight forward

Time changed! Today, somewhere inside our hearts, many of us find we cannot enjoy the real freedom. Many feel, the state is not as safe as it used to be, though many may claim. Inside our hearts we, somehow, believe and accept that the place is becoming insecure for us irrespective of caste, community or region.

Only few days back I read a joke about a school going child saying to his mother, “School sey darr nahi lagta hai Maa, Mid Day Meal sey lagta hai”. Joke apart, somewhere between the lines one realises how scared school going children and their parents are regarding their lives. Parents are not free from fear of losing their children. Freedom is confused here.
Rapes and murders were unheard of in the land of rising sun till few years back. Time has changed. Rape, murder and other criminal activities make headlines in most of the state’s local dailies.
Womenfolk cannot move freely at night hour which makes mockery of Gandhiji’s vision, “The day a woman can walk freely at midnight on the roads, that day we can say that India achieved independence”. They are not free from the clutches of greedy and lecherous eyes. Does freedom hold any meaning for these women?
In many parts shopkeepers cannot keep their shops open till late night. They start shutting their shutters as soon as the sun hides beyond the western horizon. How free and secured they feel is still a mystery.
And finally, where is the actual freedom when a rickshaw puller has to pull another fellow being for earning livelihood even after India achieved freedom many years back? Freedom is meaningless for him.
However, having said all these, all is not dark and depressing. There are freedoms that we enjoy everyday. We must be optimistic. Let everyone enjoys the things they love doing it without obstructing another person’s freedom. Let each of us feel secured, safe and free. Let there be an environment where each of us can enjoy the happiness of being free and pleasure of freedom or else what is this freedom if no one is aazad in reality.

The extra water in the Indus River is a godsend for the endangered Indus Dolphin, considered Pakistan’s flagship species, as it provides them with a larger area to swim and hunt in, connecting all the side channels and large pools.

In a previous news report based on the same study it had been claimed that the Indus Dolphin’s population had decreased. However, various other reports contradicted it. The conservationists involved say it is a matter of interpretation.
The movement of the Indus Dolphin is not restricted to the main stretch of the Indus River. During high flow season, the Indus Dolphin routinely swims into the many connecting irrigation canals of the Indus when the gates are usually opened. It frequently moves back and forth in the irrigation canals and tributaries of the river. When water levels go down and the canals are closed, the dolphins get stranded in small water pools.

But as per the official appointment of SUMA, some other person is the RTI chairman.
Being a convenor of our apex district student organization my soul and duty did not

Wrong act on the part of police
Dear Editor,
Through this esteemed daily I would like to express my strong criticism against the unruly behavior of Naharlagun police to the media person which appeared on August 10th of this daily. Before this, also many such incidents have appeared in this daily a few months ago. As usual, it is the miscreants who attack media as they really don't want media to expose their illegal activities. But what a sad, now the police too don't want the media to work freely. I really never expected such unethical behavior from police side on the media.
If we talk about the press, HG Wells regarded the press as the very backbone of enlightened citizenship. And the Robert Lynd describes the press as a reformer, teacher and a critic. Dear citizens, in the light of this context, it is the news paper which is the greatest and most potent channel of expressing the opinion of the public through feature, article, report, advertisement, readers forum and editorial sections. As we have democratic government in India so certain types of rights, liberty, freedom of express, to give constructive criticism etc. are guaranteed for us in constitution of India.
It is confirmed that the press is the very backbone of enlightened citizenship and the press people are dedicatedly, tirelessly and impartially doing their job to expose wrong or right, true or false activities of people, state and country in front of public. It seems the press is really a teacher, reformer and a critic.
From my point of view media is eyes, ears and mouth of the common people. Those who attack on the media means they attack on the eyes, ears and mouth of the common people and the common people should raise their voice against such people whenever such uncivilized behavior occurs.
